New Delhi:
Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has decided to give grace marks to students who have failed in one or two subjects in the matriculation examination this year thereby giving rise to speculations that the matric results for 2017 may be delayed further. As per previous reports, the result for matric exam held in March was expected on June 20, however with the new development it is highly doubtful that the board will release the result tomorrow.
The decision to award grace marks was finalized after approval from the state government. The decision has been taken after an alarming number of students filed in the intermediate exam results which were announced on May 30. Only 30.11 per cent students managed to pass in the intermediate exam in science stream. The pass percentage was not high in Arts stream either with only 37.1 per cent students passing the exam. The percentage was better for Commerce stream students, where 73.76 per cent students passed the exam.
In view of the intermediate result fiasco, the board has decided to award 8 marks to students who fail in one subject and 4 marks in each subject to those who fail in two subjects as grace marks.
The board had sent the proposal to award grace marks to the Chief Secretary of State Education Department on June 14. It is now expected that the result will be prepared anew by awarding grace marks to students which may delay the result further. Any official confirmation form the board is awaited.
