This year, IIM Lucknow has seen a significant surge in registrations for the Common Admission Test (CAT), with over three lakh candidates signing up. This represents a substantial increase of approximately 30 percent compared to the previous year when there were about 2.55 lakh registrations in 2022.

The surge in CAT registrations this year can be attributed to several factors. Firstly, more esteemed institutes and IITs are now considering CAT scores as part of their admission processes, making it a more attractive option for students. Additionally, the expansion of exam centres in smaller cities has played a significant role in the increased number of applications.

The selection process varies for each IIM. Usually, it consists of the CAT exam score and a written ability test (WAT), group discussion, or personal interview (PI). Different weightages are assigned to these phases by each IIM, and they also set specific minimum CAT exam cutoff percentiles for advancing to the next stage of the IIM admission process. Candidates can review the admission criteria by visiting the respective IIMs' websites.

Apart from the IIMs, institutions that accept CAT exam scores conduct group discussions or personal interviews for admission to their MBA and PGDM programs. However, some colleges admit students solely based on CAT exam scores without a personality assessment round.
