Social Science Paper Was Not Lengthy And Students Got Enough Time To Revise, Says Teacher
CBSE has successfully conducted the Social Science exam for class 10. The question paper was as per the syllabus and the difficulty level of the paper was easy and comforting, says Manisha Pundir, Subject Coordinator at VidyaGyan Sitapur.

"A few multiple-choice questions (MCQs) were challenging, but the rest were simple and accommodating. Some questions based on the G20 summit were expected as per the learning objectives of Chapter 'Globalisation and Indian Economy', but somehow, they were totally excluded from the paper. Case-based questions had answers in the provided paragraphs. Internal choices were provided. Though some questions necessitated in-depth concept grasps, most of the subjective questions were also straightforward, well-placed and maintained the equilibrium. It was not lengthy, and students got enough time to revise before submissions of answer scripts. To sum up, the question paper was balanced and reassuring," explains Ms Pundir.

CBSE Board Exams 2024 Live: Social Science Exam Demonstrated A Balanced Difficulty Level, Says Gurugram Teacher
Overall, the difficulty level of the paper was easy to moderate, says Manisha Gupta, TGT Social Science, Ajanta Public School Gurugram.

Further explaining, she adds, "The structure of the exam, with Section A comprising MCQs and Reason Assertion, proved to be the most scoring part. However, it has been observed that some questions in this section had similar options, potentially causing confusion among students.  One commendable aspect of the examination was its comprehensive coverage of the entire syllabus. The subjective part of the paper was well-structured and straightforward, making it easy for students to comprehend and answer.  Long answer questions, drawn directly from NCERT content, were perceived as less time-consuming, contributing to a smoother exam process."

In conclusion, the CBSE Social Science Board Exam for the academic year 2023-2024 demonstrated a balanced difficulty level, ranging from easy to moderate, she says.

CBSE Issues Clarification On Open Book Exam
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has clarified its intentions to conduct a comprehensive study within its affiliated schools to assess the viability of implementing the OBE within the Indian educational framework.

The move aligns with the recommendations outlined in the National Curriculum Framework for Secondary Education (NCF-SE). Initially, the Board plans to experiment with the OBE approach and subsequently evaluate its feasibility within the Indian context.

Contrary to media reports, the CBSE has refuted claims about immediate plans to introduce the OBE in selected schools as part of a pilot run for specific subjects and grade levels. Instead, the Board is currently focused on initiating a study to ascertain the feasibility of the initiative.

In an interview with Education Times, Joseph Emmanuel, the Director of Academics at CBSE, said "Some media reports have created confusion; the CBSE has decided to undertake a study to understand the feasibility for bringing assessment reforms like the OBE based on recommendations in the NEP-2020 and NCF-SE 2023. The study would be conducted in select CBSE schools as it is important to first experiment, and then examine the viability of the OBE."

Mr Emmanuel further elaborated, "The CBSE has earlier introduced case-based questions in the board exam paper; students can answer the case-based questions only if they have a conceptual understanding."
