India celebrates Children's Day on the occasion of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru's birthday which falls on November 14. While, the occasion is a way of remembering the first Prime Minister of the country, it is also an occasion to celebrate children and acknowledge their position as the future of the nation. The celebrations, hence, no longer are limited to organizing cultural and fun activities for children and have also become an occasion to inspire young children to become responsible citizens when they grow up.
One of the personalities who loved children as much as Pandit Nehru was the 11th President of India Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam. He not only loved children but engaged with them time to time. It is not unknown that Dr. Kalam loved to personally take classes and teach children.
