Delhi Government: Higher Salaries For 'Guest Teachers' Approved

Lt Governor Anil Baijal had given his approval of the hike of salaries of 17,000 "guest teachers" in Delhi government, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced on Today. Mr. Sisodia is also holds the education portfolio in the education ministry. This significant 70-80 per cent increase in the salaries of the 'guest teachers' will apply all three categories; ie., PGT, TGT and assistant teachers.
The salaries of PGT would go up from Rs 21,000 to Rs 34,000 while the TGT salaries will go up from Rs 18,000 to Rs 33,000. And the assistant teacher's salary would be increased from Rs 16,000 to Rs 32,000 a month, Mr. Sisodia said.
"Now 'guest teachers' will be able to lead a dignified life," said Manish Sisodia as reported by Indo-Asian News Service. "It is a move towards providing quality education," he added.
There were demands from the 'guest teachers' who are working on contractual basis for the salary increase for a long time.
"We really struggled hard to get this (through). I am glad it has finally happened." Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal commented on the development.
On yesterday, in first of its kind initiative Delhi Government decided to expand the mid-day meal scheme beyond primary and upper primary level and cover the girl students of classes 9 to 12 in the scheme.
