New Delhi: In a new turn of events, that may or may not be well perceived, the Governing Body of the Dyal Singh College (Evening) decided to rename the college as Vande Mataram Mahavidyalaya; after it is converted into a morning college. The decision to take away the name of Dyal Singh and replacing it with the Vande Mataram has been done to pay obeisance to the motherland said Amitabh Sinha, Chairman of College's Governing Body to the news agency ANI. "Whether it's your own mother or Bharat mata, mother is mother. Those who have a problem with paying obeisance to mother, there is a question mark on whether they are human beings or not," he said.

Citing the new name to be inspiring he further added that, 'Notification was issued that Executive Council approved Dyal Singh evening college becoming a full-fledged day college. Then we had to give it a new and inspiring name, we decided it should be 'Vande Mataram Mahavidyalaya'.'

As assumed, the name change has not been well accepted by many to which Amitabh Sinha said,' It was passed unanimously. But some started protesting saying that it is not acceptable? Why so? Everybody in this universe is because of his/her mother; if anyone thinks that paying obeisance to mother is not good then that person is a beast, not a human being.'

' The name inspired millions during freedom struggle. It'll also inspire students. There mustn't be controversy on it. People opposing it haven't understood it well. We'll not reconsider it, it's final,' said the Principal Dyal Singh College.

Moreover, the plan to convert the evening college has witnessed massive protests by the morning college students and they have staged dharna against losing their infrastructure, reports TOI. ‘After conversion, resources will have to be shared between the two colleges. There have already been many tussles between the two colleges over parking space and sharing other resources’ said a teacher to the daily newspaper.
