The Chartered Accountants' apex body also said that it is seeking graduation degree status for CA-Intermediate programme. ICAI informed this in a press release. As reported by PTI, the release said that the institute has sought the ministry's intervention to accord post-graduation degree status for CA qualification and graduation degree status for CA-intermediate as per the University education system.

The release also drew attention to the fact that the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) had already recognized chartered accountancy along with graduation to be equivalent to a post-graduation degree and was accepted as a valid academic eligibility criteria for registration to PhD programme in Commerce and allied disciplines.

"101 Indian universities, 6 IIMs and 2 IITs have recognised chartered accountancy qualification for the specific purpose of registration to PhD programme," the release said.
