Indian Origin Samarth Gupta Among American Rhodes Scholarship Winners

On November 18, the names of the American Rhodes Scholars was announced. Rhodes Scholarship is a coveted International scholarship which provides all expenses for two or three year post graduate study at Oxford University and may allow funding in certain instances for four years. Those selected this year will enter the class of 2018. Among the 32 winners of the American Rhodes Scholars is Indian origin Samarth Gupta who is currently studying at Harvard University. Other than Samarth, three other students have been selected for the scholarship from Harvard.
Samarth Gupta had immigrated to United States at the age of three with his parents. Currently he is studying at Harvard University concentrating on Economics.
As published in online Harvard Gazette, Samarth Gupta said of Harvard and the opportunities available to students at Harvard, "The thing that stands out to me about Harvard is the people here. I have learned as much in the dining halls here as I have in my classes. The brilliance and diversity of students has pushed me to think about things in a completely different perspective and to have an open mind. I think that experience is really unique to this University."
Samarth has interned for the Council of Economic Advisors, The White House and is also a 2017 Truman Scholar. On campus, he is a captain of the Harvard College Running Club, a representative on student government, and the director of an after-school basketball program for local youth.
He is not just academically talented but is also agile in extra-curricular activities. He is the captain of the Harvard College Running Club, and was one of two students on the Harvard General Education Standing Committee. He was also a staff writer for the Harvard Political Review.
As a Rhode Scholar, he plans to study M.Sc. in Comparative Social Policy at Oxford University.
