Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government has started an Aadhaar enrolment drive for nearly 14 lakh school children in the state. State's education minister Altaf Bukhari inaugurated an enrolment centre for students, up to higher secondary level, of Srinagar district at the Kothi Bagh Girls Higher Secondary School here yesterday. Project Director, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Abdul Rashid War, who is also the registrar for Aadhaar enrolment of schoolchildren, said around 14 lakh students in the state are yet to be enrolled for the biometric identity.

Abdul Rashid War said Aadhaar enrolment centres have been set up in Phase-1 in six districts of the state which includes Shopian, Pulwama, Anantnag, Dodha, Kishtwar and Samba.

"The rest of the districts will be covered in Phase-2 for which the necessary equipment, machinery and other measures are being undertaken," he said.

Through the enrolment process, teachers and their families who have not yet availed the Aadhaar facility can be covered as well, officials said.
