Jamshedpur Women's College to become Women's University under RUSA
New Delhi:
In a welcome move to encourage women's education, Central Government yesterday approved to elevate the status of Jamshedpur Women's College to that of a Women's University. The University will be the first Women's University not only in Jharkhand but in the adjoining states of Bihar, Bengal, and Chhatisgarh. The East Singhbhum district Administration has already allocated 25 acre land in the nearby area of Maliyanta. The Government has also allocated a fund of 55 crores for setting up the university under RUSA.
There were a number of autonomous colleges in the running for status of University, but Jamshedpur Women's College is the only one to make the cut till now. Students of the college were beyond exhilarated after the news came out. According to Prabhat Khabar, Principal Dr. Shukla Mohanti said that without being autonomous, it was impossible to get the status of University. The college attained the status of autonomous college a few years ago after which it began the preparation to fulfill the requirements for the status of a University.
The college administration has already begun preparing the blueprint for the University. The students here have high expectations and are hopeful that the University will finally fill the gaps felt so far in the field of Women education in the area.
The HRD minister for Jharkhand, Neera Yadav expressed her happiness on the news and said that the government will strive to begin the university in the academic year 2017-18. She also promised complete cooperation in setting up the University.
In December 2016, Jamshedpur Women's College was in news for becoming the top institute in India for developing and registering the highest number of volunteers to work as master trainers for government's cashless economy mission.
