New Delhi: The result for National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) 2017 will be declared today at 12 noon. NEST 2017 exam was conducted on May 27, 2017 at 124 centres across 60 cities in the country. NEST exam is conducted for selection of students for admission to National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) Bhubaneswar and University of Mumbai - Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS), Mumbai. Both NISER and UM-DAE CEBS were set up by Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India in 2007.

NEST exam is a compulsory test for students who wish to take admission in Integrated M.Sc. programme at both NISER and Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). At NISER, there are total 172 seats while at DAE-CBS there are 47 seats up for grab.

NEST 2017 Scoring System

The result will be out today and students who appeared for the exam should understand the scoring system which will be taken into account to prepare the merit list.

NEST exam consists of five sections. Section one is general and compulsory for all candidates. Sections 2 to 5 are subject sections (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics). Students were allowed to attempt any number of subject sections, however only the marks scored in best three sections would be considered during merit list preparation. This, essentially, means that the section with the least score will be discarded at the time of merit list preparation and only the best three scores would be added.

The first section carries 30 marks, while the subject-specific sections carry 50 marks each. So that makes the total marks 180.  The cut off or Section-wise Minimum Admissible Score (SMAS) would be 20% of the average of the 100 best scores in that section.
