Punjab Government has offered premises of Meritorious schools to be used as COVID care isolation centres. The Education Minister of Punjab, Vijay Inder Singla, said that the Education Department has extended its full support to district administrative authorities and health departments.

The Education Minister said the besides providing all government schools of Punjab for the setting up of isolation centres, the department has also offered 10 meritorious schools to the deputy commissioner for use as Covid Care Isolation Centres. He also visited Meritorious School Ghabdan in Sangrur to review the preparedness.

Mr. Singla added that as many as 8346 beds are available in hostels of the residential meritorious schools and has around 200 classrooms which can be used by the medical staff for various other purposes.

Meritorious residential Schools are situated in Amritsar, Bathinda, Ferozpur, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Mohali, Sangrur and Hoshiarpur districts. The Minister said that amid the coronavirus pandemic, creation of isolation and quarantine centres will be an important step in averting the further spread of the virus.

Mr. Singla, who also holds the charge of PWD minister, said that the public works department officials have been directed to fully cooperate with the local administration for any improvements required for setup of isolation or quarantine centres.
