Student's Body Accuses Tripura University VC For Unfairness In Apointments
New Delhi: A student body of tribal studnets in Tripura has accused the Vice-Chancellor of Tripura University of not practicing fairness and transparency in appointments and has led to decline in the quality of education at the institution. The Twipra Students' Federation (TSF), in its memorandum submitted to the VC Anjan Kumar Ghosh yesterday, alleged that the VC failed to maintain transparency in both contractual and casual appointments and has also prevented appointment of competent and qualified persons. The TSF is an independent tribal body which constitutes of studnets from Tripura's tribal communities.

The Chief Organising Secretary of TSF, David Debbarma told Press Trust of India that before submitting the memorandum, the student body also took out a procession in the campus. He also informed that in the memorandum they have also mentioned that the VC is biased toward indigenous students.

TSF also alleged that the VC also violated the current reservation procedure in the university.

"You have ... also prevented entry of competent and qualified persons, which downgraded the quality of education at the university," the memorandum said.

The VC, when contacted by PTI, said that there had been no violation of rules and regulations in appointments made in the university. He said that the student's body while submitting their memorandum yesterday had said that the appointment of a media-cum-public relation consultant was in violation of the University's norm which was not correct.

He said, "This is a temporary post and the university has the authority to appoint someone by following appropriate procedures. A finance Officer was appointed by MHRD following all rules and the university has nothing to do in this case and one librarian was appointed by strictly adhering to the UGC guidelines."

He also said that there was no question of being disrespectful to tribals. He said that in his tenure, MA was introduced in tribal language, Kokborok and other courses were introduced in Mizo ad Garo languages.
