New Delhi: Education and teachers are synonymous. One cannot exist without the other.  The role of teachers in building a society is vital and consequently is identified and honored all over the world. While a teacher's contribution is appreciated in many ways, one of the ways in which it is celebrated is by dedicating one complete day to teachers. In India, everyone knows that Teacher's Day is celebrated on September 5 to commemorate the birth anniversary of S. Radhakrishnan. But what about Teacher's Day in other countries?

Globally, International Teacher's Day is celebrated on October 5 and commemorates the signing of the 1966 UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. 

Apart from the International Teacher's Day, several other countries also have a specific day dedicated to celebrating teachers and their contribution to the society. Here's a list of countries which have a specific day dedicated to teachers:

The teacher's day festivities in all the countries generally include a day of leisure and relaxation for the teachers. The students usually organize concerts, cultural programmes and other festivities for teachers. Teachers are also thanked with gifts and thank you notes by students. Teacher's Day is seen as a day not just to give gifts to teachers but also as a day to develop bonding with them.
