According to the NIRF Ranking 2019 released by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), institutes from Kerala have improved their rankings. Kerala University is the best varsity in the state of Kerala. Overall, Kerala University is at 22nd rank in the NIRF university rankings. Last year, the university's rank was 30. This shows that institutes in Kerala have improved upon the various parameters which are measured for NIRF rankings in the past one year. Following Kerala University, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam is at rank 30.
Malappuram's Calicut University is the second largest after Kerala University. The overall rank is at 64. Cochin University of Science and Technology, which has three campuses, is at 65.
Gradually, there has been improvement in state colleges. University College, Thiruvananthapuram is the best college in the state and is at 23rd rank. Mar Ivanios College is at 29th position.
Rajagiri College of Social Sciences is ranked 29 following Govt. College for Women, St. Thomas College and Sacred Heart College.
