Uttarakhand Boy, Shivansh Joshi Tops NDA

Hailing from Ramnagar, Uttarakhand, Shivansh Joshi has topped the UPSC NDA/ NA (I) Exam 2017. He is currently a student at NIT Tiruchirappalli, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, which he will quit to join the Indian Army. UPSC had declared the NDA result on 24 November and a total of 371 candidates have qualified it. Having scored 96.8 percentage in class 12 board exam and clearing the much coveted JEE Advanced Exam, Shivansh decided to serve the nation in a better way and qualified the NDA exam. 'I always wanted to join the Indian Army as the kind of pride, respect, honour, discipline and adventure associated with it is not offered in any other profession. Joining defence forces is the best way you can serve your nation. The syllabus for class 12 exams and JEE is quite similar. NDA picks more generic topics. But I ensured three hours of preparation for the exams and two hours of football and other physical activities,' he said to the leading daily, Indian Express.

He has scored 1026 out of 1800 marks in the exam. His father, Sanjeev Joshi, is employed with Life Insurance Corporation and his mother, Tanuja Joshi, is a government primary school teacher.
Anirudh Singh and Somay Badola have secured second and third rank, respectively.
Since UPSC NDA results have been declared, Shivansh Joshi has been an inspiration to many. 'I stayed away from social media. Though I am fond of smartphones, I purchased it after clearing all my exams,' the daily added about his success strategy.
Few days before the declaration of NDA result, Uttarakhand government was in news for deciding to set up two centres to train youths to make them prepare for the Combined Defence Services (CDS) and National Defence Academy (NDA) exams.
