Union Minister Jitendra Singh has asked the UPSC to cancel its advertisement for lateral entry

Mr Singh cited PM Modi's call for introducing the principles of equity and social justice enshrined in the Constitution for cancelling the advertisement


Lateral entry into bureaucracy refers to the recruitment of individuals from outside the government service cadres such as IAS

UPSC had earlier released an advertisement for lateral entry for the post of Joint Secretary, Director, and Deputy Secretary 


The move by the UPSC had sparked controversy after political parties criticized the process


The lateral entry process was formally introduced during PM Modi's tenure
