A top Uttar Pradesh education officer has said that mobile phones should be used only during emergencies in colleges and universities across the state.
While there is no advisory, the Directorate of Higher Education has urged limiting the use of mobile phones to ensure a 'better teaching environment for students across all colleges and universities in the state'.
"We want the students to understand that we should not misuse the privileges we have got. And let technology be our servants and not our masters... Mobile phones should be used only during emergencies and their use should be minimum so that the atmosphere in colleges and universities is maintained... Teachers and professors should not use mobile phones inside the classroom; if they don' use it themselves, then only can they expect students to follow suit," said Dr Vandana Sharma, Director, Higher Education.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has already banned the use of mobile phones during his official meetings, including Cabinet meetings.
The decision was taken after some ministers and officers were found to be busy reading messages on WhatsApp during important meetings.
