10 ministers elevated to Cabinet rank

New Delhi: Ten ministers were elevated in the expansion of the UPA Cabinet, which took place on Thursday.

Four time MP from Chandigarh Pawan Kumar Bansal, who was a Minister of State (MoS) Finance in the last cabinet has been elevated to the rank of a Cabinet Minister.

The lone Congress MP from Jharkhand Subodh Kant Sahai was also elevated as Cabinet Minister from his earlier charge of Minister of State for Food Processing (Independent Charge).

G K Vasan, who was sworn in as Cabinet minister was earlier the Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation in 2006.

Kumari Selja, who was a Minister of State for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (Independent Charge) is now one among the four women cabinet ministers.

Manohar Singh Gill, the new Cabinet Minister was earlier Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports (Independent Charge) while Kanti Lal Bhuria who was sworn in as Cabinet Minister was MoS Agriculture in the previous UPA government.

Sriprakash Jaiswal, Jairam Ramesh, Prithviraj Chavan and Dinsha Patel who served as Ministers of State in the last cabinet have also been elevated as Ministers of State with Independent Charge in the new Cabinet.
