Bangalore: Unfazed by the storm of criticism over his alleged remarks against the media, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Chief Arvind Kejriwal today accused certain sections in the media of lying about Narendra Modi's development story in Gujarat.

Mr Kejriwal, yesterday, was at the centre of a raging controversy for allegedly stating that the media had been "bought" with "large amounts" to promote Narendra Modi, who is the BJP's prime ministerial candidate.

"I want to know, with all due humility, why some in the media, in the past one year, lied to the country about Modiji's developmental work. I also want to know if the media will dare to show Gujarat's true story," Mr Kejriwal said, ahead of his maiden roadshow in Bangalore today. The 45-year-old is on a two-day tour of Karnataka to campaign for AAP candidates contesting the general elections on April 17.

Yesterday, the AAP chief had sought to distance himself from the comments attributed to him against the media that were shown as part of a video aired by a national television channel. The remarks were reportedly made at a fund-raising dinner in Nagpur in Maharashtra on Thursday.

In the video, whose authenticity cannot be verified by NDTV, Mr Kejriwal says, "The media don't tell the truth about Modi... the entire media is sold, it's a big conspiracy, it's a huge political conspiracy. If we ever form a government, we will get an investigation done and along with the mediawallahs, will send everyone to jail."

While parties across the political spectrum condemned the remarks, Mr Kejriwal's party defended him, saying "there is nothing wrong" in what he had said.
