New Delhi: Accusing Law Minister Kapil Sibal of 'wilfully' not disclosing details of companies owned by his wife in his election affidavit, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy today approached the Election Commission seeking action against the Congress candidate from Chandni Chowk.
A day earlier, Mr Sibal had led a Congress delegation in filing a complaint with the poll panel over BJP PM candidate Narendra Modi, asking for action against him since he had failed to disclose his marital status earlier. Mr Sibal, however, rejected the charge. In a petition to the Election Commissioner HS Brahma, Mr Swamy alleged that Mr Sibal has "wilfully failed to disclose" in his affidavit the assets and liabilities details of at least three companies owned by his wife. (Full coverage: India Votes 2014)
"The failure to disclose these companies especially since they are of substantial assets, is a serious perjury under the criminal law...please forward this complaint with the Election Commission's recommendation to the magistrate concerned to take cognisance and issue due process," Mr Swamy said in his petition.
Mr Sibal rejected the allegation, saying "if he (Swamy) finds any assets of my wife not disclosed by me, then I will give it to him without any charge." (Read: In poll affidavit, Modi says he is married, brother gives clarification)
