Sushil Kumar Modi with other BJP leaders after meeting the Governor in Patna on Sunday
Patna:
Amid fast-paced political developments in Bihar following Nitish Kumar's resignation as chief minister, a BJP delegation today met Governor DY Patil and urged him to seek a parade of all MLAs in the event the Janata Dal (United) again stakes claim to form government.
After the meeting, former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi told reporters that the BJP delegation discussed the political situation in Bihar with the Governor.
Besides Mr Modi, the delegation comprised of leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Nand Kishore Yadav, state party president Mangal Pandey, Deputy Speaker Amrendra Pratap Singh and MLAs Prem Ranjan Patel and Arun Sinha.
The BJP delegation was escorted inside the Raj Bhavan by security personnel as a large number of supporters of Nitish Kumar had assembled outside One Anne Marg, the venue of JD(U) legislature party meeting, which is in proximity to Raj Bhavan.
Mr Modi said that the delegation told the Governor that a condition of political instability had been prevailing in the state for the past 11 months since the NDA split.
"Nitish Kumar is heading a minority government and has not even been able to expand his ministry which has halted development in the state," he said.
"While many JD(U) MLAs have been suspended and were not present in the meeting today, JD(U) legislators are holding meetings in groups against chief minister," Mr Modi said referring to their conversation with the Governor.
He said that in this situation they told the Governor that in order to ensure a stable government in the state, he should insist on a parade of each and every MLA supporting Mr Kumar.
Asked if the BJP was making efforts to form government in the state, Mr Modi said, "Right now we have not thought about it."
Mr Modi had claimed during Lok Sabha poll campaigns that 50 JD(U) MLAs, dissatisfied with the style of functioning of the Mr Kumar, were in touch with the BJP and working for its victory in the poll.
