BJP dissolves all poll-related panels

New Delhi: With BJP President Rajnath Singh dissolving various Lok Sabha poll-related committees on Thursday, several leaders of the party who had gained prominence during elections returned to their former responsibilities.

In a three-line statement, Singh announced dissolution of all committees formed to handle different poll-related issues.

As a result, the three additional spokespersons, namely, S S Ahluwalia, Balbir Punj and Siddharth Nath Singh have been divested of their responsibilities.

Similarly, controversial businessman Sudhanshu Mittal, who was made party co-convener of the Northeast states, will lose this post, party sources said.

Mittal's appointment had raised a storm in the party with general secretary Arun Jaitley refusing to attend the Central Election Committee and other meetings chaired by Rajnath to register his protest. Mittal was appointed by Rajnath, much against the wishes of Jaitley and others.

Sudheendhra Kulkarni, a close associate of senior leader L K Advani, will also lose his position as a key member of the election management and publicity committees.

Jaitley will return back to his old responsibilities in the party as general secretary. He was the chief strategist and head of the Election Management Committee.
