New Delhi: The process of government formation is complete now but Rahul Gandhi is not in the Cabinet. When asked why he refused to join the Ministry, the young Congress leader said, "I want to work for Congress party because I believe in doing one thing at a time."
Though Prime Minister Manmohan Singh himself wanted Rahul to join the Cabinet, the Gandhi scion politely turned down the offer. The MP who represents Amethi, said he wanted to work for the party, especially in Uttar Pradesh, where Congress needed to strengthen its base.
For now, he is happy with the results of the Lok Sabha elections. "My hard work in Uttar Pradesh over the last 5 years has paid off," he told reporters after the second round of swearing-in in New Delhi. He added: "We need to give hope to people of UP who have been divided over caste and religion."
Meanwhile, his mother Sonia Gandhi, who is also the UPA chairperson, said that UP didn't have a Cabinet minister as Rahul Gandhi turned down the offer.
