Cong-DMK deadlock over portfolios ends: Sources
New Delhi: The Congress-DMK deal over the Cabinet portfolios is now through. NDTV has learnt that DMK leader M Karunanidhi has struck a balance between family and party by deciding that of the three cabinet berths they have been offered, the family will get two -- for son Azhagiri and grand nephew Dayanidhi Maran. The third one goes to A Raja.

In this formula T R Baalu has been left out. Sources also said that Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi is likely to be Minister of State. The party is trying to get her an independent charge.

National Security Adviser M K Narayanan who is back from Sri Lanka has met DMK chief M Karunanidhi twice on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

The NSA visited the island nation after the Sri Lankan government announced the death of LTTE chief Prabhakaran.

Karunanidhi had earlier said that the NSA had assured him that he would brief him about the situation in Sri Lanka.

Narayanan now says the matter of portfolios did come up.

Earlier, Dayanidhi Maran met Karunanidhi at his residence.  while senior leaders and members of the Karunanidhi family held a series of meetings late Saturday night and Sunday morning.

The Congress' last offer was for three Cabinet ministers, three Ministers of State and one independent ministry.
