Cong wins two seats in Delhi; set for clean sweep

New Delhi:

Union Minister Kapil Sibal and Mahabal Mishra of Congress on Saturday pulled out a spectacular victory in Delhi where the party is all set to sweep the Lok Sabha polls.

Its candidates in all the other five seats are also leading by a comfortable margin of over 36,000 votes as per the trends available.

Sibal defeated BJP's Vijender Gupta in Chandni Chowk with a hefty margin of 2,00,710 votes while party's Poorvanchali face in the capital Mishra pulled out a stunning victory in West Delhi seat, considered a BJP stronghold.

Mishra toppled Delhi's Leader of Opposition Jagdish Mukhi by a margin of 1, 29,033 votes.

The party candidate also won the bypolls to Rohtas Nagar Assembly seat.

Vipin Kumar of Congress defeated the BJP candidate by over 23,000 votes in the by-elections to Rohtas Nagar Assembly seat, which fell vacant after his father and MLA Ram Babu Sharma passed away. Kumar overcame the challenge posed by BJP's Divya Jaiswal, former Delhi Deputy Mayor.

Sibal's ministerial colleague Ajay Maken is ahead of BJP's Vijay Goel in New Delhi by 44,956 seats. Sibal and Maken are the sitting MPs from Chandni Chowk and New Delhi.
