Congress brainstorms over PM's new team

New Delhi: After its decisive win in the general elections, the Congress has now got down to the task of government formation.

The Congress core group met on Sunday to discuss the political situation and issues related to government formation following the impressive performance of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) in the Lok Sabha elections.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi are holding a meeting with top leaders of the Congress party at the PM's residence to discuss Manmohan Singh's new team. Sonia Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel and Defence Minister A K Antony are alo present at the meet.

The core committee is also discussing the party's strategy on how to approach its allies.

Meanwhile, a day after UPA emerged as a winner in the 15th Lok Sabha elections, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi celebrated the victory with senior Congress leaders at party's 'election war-room' in New Delhi.

Gandhi met the leaders in the office located at Gurudwara Rakabganj road here where a lunch has been organized for them.

Senior party leaders, including Ahmed Patel, Janardhan Dwivedi, Oscar Fernandes, Jairam Ramesh and Dipender Hooda were present on the occasion.

Gandhi reached the venue around 11:45 am where he congratulated Congress workers for their efforts, which led to party's victory in the polls.
