Chennai:
MK Stalin has taken back his offer to resign as the Treasurer of the DMK hours after offering to quit owning responsibility for his party's dismal performance in national election. Mr Stalin was the face of the DMK's campaign, and his party failed to get a single seat in Tamil Nadu.
Senior party leader Durai Murugan said party chief M Karunanidhi had advised Mr Stalin against such move even as other leaders had asked him not to take such a 'tragic decision" as they were all with him.
"So he accepted our request and leader's advice also and withdrew" his resignation, he told reporters.
While senior leader Mr Murugan said that Mr MK Stalin had given his resignation letter to Party Chief, Mr Karunanidhi has denied this. He blamed it on the media for the poll debacle.
Mr Stalin, 61, is the younger son of Mr Karunanidhi.
Meanwhile, MK Alagiri, who was expelled by their father before the election for indiscipline, has called Mr Stalin's resignation offer a drama and a plan to capture the "top party post".
Of Tamil Nadu's 39 parliamentary seats, a staggering 37 were won by the ruling AIADMK, led by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.
Mr Stalin chose not to ally his party with the Congress - in 2009, the partnership had delivered 26 Lok Sabha seats for the alliance.
This time, neither party won a single seat.
Since Mr Karunanidhi selected Mr Stalin as his political heir, Mr Alagiri resolutely worked to undermine his younger brother and the decisions he took on behalf of the party.
