Ahmedabad:
The election authorities today rejected the nomination form of Aam Aadmi Party's candidate from Patan Lok Sabha constituency for a technical mistake in his nomination papers.
"The district collectorate has informed our candidate Atul Patel that his nomination was cancelled for a technical reason," AAP spokesperson Harshil Nayak said.
"The Election Commission has cited technical reasons saying that one of Mr Patel's ten supporters had made a mistake while putting his name," the party spokesperson stated. "Patel and his supporters tried to correct the mistake but they failed."
The AAP spokesperson said that Mr Patel had set out for the Collectorate as today was the last day of scrutiny of forms, but he stopped on the way at the site of a road accident and helped the victims.
When he finally made his way to Collectorate, he was told that his form had been rejected, the spokesperson said, also hinting at "conspiracy" against the candidate.
BJP's Leeladhar Waghela and Congress's Bhavsinh Rathod are the two main candidates in the fray in this constituency.
Mr Patel is likely to move the High Court, AAP sources said.
AAP has fielded candidates in all the 26 Lok Sabha constituencies in Gujarat.
