Himachal Pradesh Results: BJP Confident Of Winning Of Over 50 Seats In Himachal Pradesh

Shimla: With hours left for the Himachal Pradesh election results to be declared, the BJP is confident that it would win more than 50 seats and form a stable government.

In a meeting last month in Hamirpur, the party has reviewed the post poll situation after getting feedback from ground-level workers. According to the party's internal assessment based on the reports it got, the target of winning 50 plus seats in the 68 member house would not be a problem.

"We discussed the post-poll situation after getting the feedback from the field and also the reports of undercutting in some places but reached the conclusion that party would form a stable government and win more than 50 seats in the 68 member house," news agency PTI had quoted party chief Satpal Singh Satti as saying.

BJP have assessed the possible damage that could have been caused due to undercutting and observed that it would not alter the overall poll results.

The fate of 337 candidates including Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and his predecessor Prem Kumar Dhumal will be known today as counting of votes is taken up in Himachal Pradesh where traditional rivals BJP and Congress have contested all 68 seats.

Corruption was the main focus of the BJP campaign with the party training its guns at Chief Minister Singh, while the Congress hit out at the BJP over the issue of GST and demonetisation.

2,820 counting staff has been deployed for today's exercise which includes counting supervisors, counting assistants and micro observers.

Chief Electoral Officer, Pushpender Rajput said three- tier security arrangements have been made at all counting centres.
