Varanasi: Aam Aadmi Party member Raghu Ram was allegedly heckled today in Varanasi, where the party's chief Arvind Kejriwal held roadshows before voting on Monday, the last day of the national election.

Raghu Ram, a TV show host, said he was attacked at the historic Banaras Hindu University (BHU).

"We were not canvassing for votes. We had a nice interaction with students and when we were coming out, three people came and started threatening us. They swung at me with a stick," he told NDTV.

Just after the alleged attack, Raghu Ram had tweeted, "Oh well. I just got attacked by 2 guys with lathis inside BHU! They were outsiders. The BHU boys chased them away."

He was with actor-politician Gul Panag, who tweeted to deny reports that she had been attacked.

"Things heated up during an interaction with #BHU students. Got away before things escalated. (Raghu) WAS attacked. Is now safe," Ms Panag, AAP's Chandigarh candidate, tweeted this evening.

Mr Kejriwal is contesting from Varanasi against Narendra Modi, the BJP's prime ministerial candidate, and the Congress' Ajay Rai.

Mr Kejriwal's road-shows in the city today come after Mr Modi's three-hour drive-through  yesterday amid his party's war with the Election Commission over the refusal of permission for his events in the city.
