Bangalore: Bangalore North is one of the constituencies around the country, chosen by the Congress for its primary process of selecting a candidate.

The elections for this are slated for Thursday - and four candidates are in the fray.

These include IIM Professor Rajeev Gowda, former Bangalore North MP, C Narayanaswamy, the political secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee or KPCC chief, GC Chandrashekhar and an ex-MLA, Narendra Babu.

Voting will be held on Thursday morning and Congress office bearers in the constituency are entitled to vote.

Rajeev Gowda told NDTV, "Rahul Gandhi's innovation - primary election in the Congress party has been a transformative exercise."

"I am a person who has done a lot of work already for Bangalore North and am capable of doing much more. I have done work on the ground...fixed garbage black spots, have worked on infrastructure like Hebbal flyover, youth oriented programmes, suburban rail ...I have a strong Congress foundation...I can inspire the youth to greater heights. I have worked for the safety of women," said Mr Gowda.

His rival, C Narayanaswamy said that being a former Member of Parliament from the seat gives him an edge. "I have been an MP from Bangalore North earlier and I am familiar with the constituency people. I have been in public life for 30 years. I feel I have done my little bit for the development of this constituency," he said.
