Indian Americans elated at LS election results

Washington:

Indian Americans are elated at the Lok Sabha election results giving the Congress-led UPA a decisive mandate that will strengthen Indo-US strategic ties.

The large community of Indian Americans in Washington, who were anxiously watching the election results, said the mandate in favor of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is not only better for the resurgence of India's economic growth amid the current economic recession but it will also strengthen the Indo-US ties.

Indian Americans who had played a significant role in the passage of the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal, said the people of India have given their verdict against the BJP and the Communist parties, who had opposed the nuclear deal.

"The defeat of the Communists and impressive victory of Congress will undoubtedly strengthen the hands of Manmohan Singh to implement his economic policies freely and to provide much needed and timely boost to the Indian economy," said A K Mago of the US India Forum.

Congratulating the people of India for giving the mandate for Congress, he said they could not have made a better choice but to strengthen Singh during these uncertain and difficult economic times.
