New Delhi: Former MP Jagdish Tytler, whose candidature was withdrawn by Congress in the last Lok Sabha polls due to protests over his alleged role in 1984 anti-Sikh riots, today filed his nomination for northeast Lok Sabha seat under primaries project in Delhi.
The constituency, being represented by Jai Prakash Agarwal, today witnessed two other nominations - that of Mr Agarwal and Rajesh Lalotia, an former MLA from Patel Nagar.
"Party leaders Jagdish Tytler, Jai Prakash Agarwal and Rajesh Lalotia today filed their nominations for northeast Lok Sabha seat under primaries project, an experiment by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi. Candidates can withdraw their nominations till March 6. Subsequently, the voting will be held on March 11 for this seat," Pradeep Sharma, in-charge for the project said.
Mr Sharma said that there are around 360 voters who will be exercising their franchises on March 11. For New Delhi Lok Sabha Constituency, Ajay Maken is set to become the candidate as no other leader had filed nominations against him.
After filing his nomination, Mr Tytler issued a statement stating that: "I request the entire media fraternity to not to fall in the trap of a few politically motivated people to use 1984 riots as means of political self uplift."
