He was one of six Congress MPs who had moved a no-confidence motion against the Manmohan Singh government during the winter session of Parliament last year for its proposal to create Telangana after splitting Andhra Pradesh. He resigned from the Congress in protest, and has now joined N Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
