New Delhi:
During his trip to Delhi earlier this week, MK Alagiri, who has been suspended from the DMK by his father, reportedly met BJP president Rajnath Singh and offered his support to the BJP for the national election.
Mr Alagiri was not included on the DMK's list of candidates for Tamil Nadu's 39 seats, which was shared by his father and party chief M Karunanidhi. Mr Alagiri has a strong support base in and around his constituency of Madurai and his clout extends to seven parliamentary seats.
The BJP is now weighing Mr Alagiri's offer, said party sources, adding the BJP president plans to discuss his meeting with Mr Alagiri with top leaders in the party.
Mr Alagiri was suspended by his father Mr Karunanidhi in January for a sustained campaign to undermine his younger brother, MK Stalin, who has been chosen as their father's political successor.
Mr Alagiri said earlier this week that he is contemplating a party of his own, but will take a decision after the national election.
