Ambedkar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh: What was intended as a sharp rebuke by Sonia Gandhi has been appropriated as a compliment by Narendra Modi, the BJP's prime ministerial candidate.
"Aap ke muh mein ghee-shakkar (may your words come true)," Mr Modi said at a rally today, in response to Mrs Gandhi who recently said that his speeches reflect an arrogance and assumption that he has already been chosen by the country for its top job. Mr Modi said Mrs Gandhi appears to have predicted his victory.
Mr Modi's high-octane campaign will lead the BJP to the maximum seats in this election, according to opinion polls, which also forecast a huge defeat for the Congress.
Mrs Gandhi's son, Rahul, is fronting the party's outreach to voters for a third successive term in power.
The election has seen the Gandhis - including Rahul's sister, Priyanka- warning voters that Mr Modi is a divisive leader and that if the BJP is elected, it will encourage communalism.
Mr Modi's party has rejected those allegations, and has accused the Gandhis of facilitating sweetheart land deals for Priyanka's husband, Robert Vadra, in states where the Congress is in power.
