New Delhi:
BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi stands for 'Model of Dividing India', the Congress said today, accusing BJP leaders of playing the "communal card" to garner votes.
Union Minister Kapil Sibal's remarks at the AICC briefing came days after Priyanka Gandhi had mocked Narendra Modi for his 'ABCD' and 'RSVP' jibes against Congress telling him that he should realise that he was not addressing primary school students.
Mr Modi had said that the Congress was faithful to the RSVP model, referring to the Gandhi family members Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Robert Vadra and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
He had also attacked the UPA government saying "A for Adarsh scam, B for Bofors scam, C for Coal scam, D for Damad (son-in-law) scam...this is the new A B C D...which the Congress adopted to introduce in a new book of alphabets for children."
Mr Sibal accused Mr Modi of lowering political discourse saying, "he was aiming to be the PM but even a municipal councillor would know better about use of language and maintaining dignity."
Releasing a number of photos allegedly taken from the Twitter account of some senior BJP leaders as well as well from some district level leaders, Mr Sibal said photographs of events in Pakistan, Palestine and Bangladesh were being shown on these twitter handles as occurring in India to communalise the atmosphere.
He also said that one of the accounts is in the name of Nitin Gadkari. Though it does not belong to him, the former BJP President has not sought action against the fake account holder. It has a photograph of Mr Gadkari and shows a photo of burning of Indian tricolour in Pakistan as something that happened in Hyderabad, he said.
Referring to a picture on the Twitter wall of the District President of BJP Minority Cell in Kheda in Gujarat Asma Khan Pathan, Mr Sibal said while the truth is that it is a picture of Pakistan's hard line Jamaat-ul-Dawa (JUD) torching Indian flag during a protest in Karachi on August 14, 2013, it has been shown on her page claiming to be of Bangladeshi Muslims burning the Indian National flag in a protest in Assam.
"This incident is of Pakistan and is shown as if it has happened in Assam. This is what is happening in India during the elections," he said.
He also referred to another photograph in the name of BJP leader Subramaniam Swamy but made it clear that Swamy had said that the account did not belong to him but was of people known to him.
"This is a facebook account which has been shown belonging to Subramaniam Swamy. He tweeted on January 5, 2014 that facebook account is not mine. It is by people whom I know. What does it say and what is truth. Right side, it says violence, low turnout mar elections in Bangaldesh. On the left side, it is shown as 'Hindus being assaulted by muslims in Bagladesh'.
"He (Swamy) says he knows these people. In January 2014, he says it is not my account, yet he does not do anything about it. He does not complain that it should be stopped, he does not block it. This is what is happening in our country.
It is all being done for elections only," Mr Sibal said. Saying that nobody is raising this issue either in the media or anyone else, Mr Sibal said, "these are all offences under the National Security Act."
