New Delhi: In his first big meeting at his official residence at 7 RCR, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the general secretaries of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Buoyed by its recent success in the national elections, Mr Modi, sources say, stressed on the need to continue strengthening the party and ensure good co-ordination between the party and the government so the two complement each other.
The focus on the organisation is important, sources say, as BJP gets ready for elections in Maharashtra and Haryana that will go to the polls in a few months from now.
The state of Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand will see elections next year. The party has performed very well in these two states in the general elections and would like to keep the momentum going. At least three general secretaries - Ananth Kumar, Dharmendra Pradhan and Thawarchand Gehlot - are now part of the Modi cabinet. Party president Rajnath Singh is the Home Minister and discussions continue on his successor where two general secretaries Amit Shah and J P Nadda's names are said to be under consideration.
Later in the evening, the PM held an almost two-hour-long meeting with Mr Singh, Arun Jaitley and Nitin Gadkari.
It's going to be a working Sunday for Mr Modi as he will interact with the staff at the BJP headquarters in the evening and thank them for their efforts and contribution in the elections.
