NDTV's opinion poll shows that of the 17 parliamentary seats in Telangana, the Congress and K Chandrasekhar Rao or KCR will get seven each. Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party lands two.
KCR fronted the campaign for a Telangana state, which will formally be founded on June 2. So his party, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi or TRS is seeing huge dividends - the poll shows it gaining five seats from the last election in 2009. (Complete opinion poll coverage)
The Congress has so far been rebuffed by KCR about an alliance. However, KCR, who is aiming to be the first Chief Minister of the new Telangana state, has indicated that he may be open to a partnership after the results are in. The two sides may revisit their positions if Chandrababu Naidu proceeds with a deal with the BJP. Talks between them are reportedly within inches of the finish line.
