Nobody stands a chance against Gandhi family in Amethi: Congress

New Delhi: Congress today said that the Gandhi family had the blessings of the people of Amethi and nobody stood a chance against them in elections there after AAP leader Kumar Vishwas held a rally in the constituency which is represented in Lok Sabha by Rahul Gandhi.

"The way the Gandhi family has served that constituency (Amethi) and the kind of blessings the people of that seat have given to the family, nobody stands a chance against them," Congress leader and Union Minister Rajiv Shukla told reporters in Delhi.

He was reacting to AAP's bid to field Kumar Vishwas as its candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Amethi.

Mr Vishwas today had a rough start to his campaign in Amethi amidst protesters showing black flags and pelting stones.

Taking on Mr Gandhi on his home turf, Mr Vishwas said that the "Rajkumar" had just indulged in "symbolism" by eating at the houses of dalits and not raised even a single question in Parliament in the past 10 years related to the people of Amethi.

He asked the people to vote for an "aam aadmi" (common man) instead of a prince.

The poet-turned-politician was shown black flags by protesters, who raised slogans against him over his remarks about a religious event.
