Debunking the Gujarat model of development propagated by its chief minister Narendra Modi, CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat today said a strong and secular government with pro-working class alternative policies should come to power at the Centre.
"The Gujarat model of growth only propagates the idea of capitalism... The need of the hour is that a strong and secular government should be formed to bring in alternative policies in favour of the working class," he said in a recorded video message at an election rally here.
Seeking votes for party candidate from the Coimbatore Lok Sabha seat PR Natarajan, Mr Karat said non-Congress, non-BJP parties should come together to form an alternative government at the Centre.
Mr Karat was scheduled to address the meeting but could not make it, party sources said. Taking a dig at AIADMK, till recently its ally, Mr Karat said it had been into opportunistic politics, while DMK was part of the corrupt UPA government and was still willing to join hands with the Congress.
CPI national secretary D Raja said BJP was wrong to project Mr Modi as "superman", who could bring solutions to all the problems of the country.
