Mumbai: Arvind Kejriwal's visit to Mumbai, which included an auto ride and a journey on a local train, has left the Shiv Sena seething.
The party, which has always been critical of Mr Kejriwal, said today that the 45-year-old and his supporters "created chaos and broke the law" as they traversed the city on Wednesday. The Sena added, "Kejriwal should limit his drama to Delhi, not Mumbai."
The detailed excoriation ran in an editorial in the Sena's newsmagazine.
Mr Kejriwal, 45, heads the Aam Aadmi Party or AAP, which has positioned itself as an anti-corruption party. On his Mumbai trip, Mr Kejriwal was paraded through the constituencies of AAP candidates as the party tries to shore up support within urban centres like Bangalore and Mumbai.
The huge crowd Mr Kejriwal drew at the Churchgate train station included a media scrum and in the surge, metal detectors were knocked over. Critics say that Mr Kejriwal saw no problem with inconveniencing commuters, though he regularly derides other politicians whose convoys cause traffic nightmare. In February, 49 days after he took over as Chief Minister of Delhi, Mr Kejriwal resigned to protest against the stalling of an anti-graft bill in the state legislature. Since then, he has been campaigning for the national election. His AAP has declared more than 300 candidates for the country's 543 parliamentary seats.
