Chandigarh: Yoga Guru Ramdev was today booked by Punjab police for allegedly "outraging" religious sentiments of Sikh community.
The Jalandhar police registered an FIR against Ramdev under section 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) on a complaint of Harpreet Singh, a member of Sikh coordination committee, police said.
Sikh organisations have taken exception to Ramdev's alleged act of placing a photograph of Sikh Guru on the floor while he himself sat on the stage at one of his Yoga camps in Talwandi Saboo in Punjab recently.
The photograph has been doing rounds on the social media since Sunday and people have been criticising Ramdev for the alleged blasphemy.
Various Sikh organisations led by Jathedar Jagjit Singh Gaba, Tajinder Singh Pardesi, Harpal Singh Chadha, Gurmeet Singh and others burnt Ramdev's effigy at Jalandhar today before they proceeded to get an FIR lodged against him.
The yoga guru was recently booked by the Uttar Pradesh police for his "anti-Dalit" remarks targeting Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi.
