Six injured in clash between Trinamool and CPI(M) workers

Hooghly, West Bengal: Six persons were injured today in a clash between workers of Trinamool Congress and CPI(M) in Hooghly district of Arambagh Lok Sabha constituency where polling will be held tomorrow.

Police sources said the victims of the clash that took place in Gaurhati area of Arambag in the district belonged to both the parties and two persons, including CPI(M) local leader Tarun Roy, were arrested.

TMC district president Tapan Dasgupta alleged that a gang led by Tarun Roy were tearing the party's posters and banners.

"When we protested, they attacked us," he alleged. CPI(M), on the other hand, claimed that Tarun Roy was a resident of the locality and he was attacked by TMC men when he was returning home.

"They lodged a false FIR and the police were harassing our party without proper investigation," said Mozammel Haque, a local leader of the left party.

Arambagh (SC) Lok Sabha seat is currently held by CPI(M)'s Sakti Mohan Malik. In the election tomorrow, he is pitted against TMC's Aparupa Poddar (Afrin Ali) and BJP's Madhusudan Bag.
