Some people chanting NaMo, but the game is not so easy: Mamata Banerjee

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee addresses party convention on Tuesday

Kolkata: She didn't actually say his name. But for the first time, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee made her most direct reference to Narendra Modi saying people may be chanting "NaMo NaMo", the game is not so easy.

"I am seeing the BJP, even before coming to power, some of them are already chanting 'NaMo NaMo', like their prime ministerial candidate has already won. I say the game is not so easy. They can have more ads, their party can spend more money but just because you keep saying BJP will come to power, I am not willing to accept it," she told a meeting of party workers at Pailan in South 24 Parganas district, an hour from Kolkata.

Instead, she believes it is the Federal Front's turn to run the country's politics.

Mamata has clearly done some math. "Where will they get the numbers?" she asked. "They are not in power in Odisha, Bihar, Tamil Nadu and many other states, not even in Bengal and Punjab. As the days go by, the math will become cloudy. This time, no BJP, no Congress, the Federal Front will run the politics of the country," she said.

Where that confidence about the Federal Front is stemming from is not clear. But, for the first time, Ms Banerjee has taken on the BJP and Mr Modi by name and put them on notice.
