Ranchi:
Jharkhand has only tribal chief ministers since its creation in 2000, despite majority of the
seats in the 81-member assembly belong to general category.
The number of general seats is 44, that of scheduled tribe 29 and scheduled caste eight. Tribals form only 26 per cent of the 2.75 crore population of the state.
The state's first chief minister was NDA nominee Babulal Marandi after it was created on November 15, 2000.
Marandi was replaced by another tribal Arujun Munda following a revolt in the NDA against the incumbent in March 2003.
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha chief, Shibu Soren held the reins twice. Soren, also a tribal, became the chief executive in 2005 for nine days and in 2008 for four months.
Madhu Koda, now in the centre of the Rs 2000 crore money laundering scam, held the mantle in 2006.
An Independent tribal chief minister, Koda was supported by the UPA before President's Rule was imposed keeping the assembly under suspended animation on January 19 this year.
