Want to Start Building India From Amethi, says Narendra Modi on Rahul Gandhi's Turf

Want to Start Building India From Amethi, says Narendra Modi on Rahul Gandhi's Turf
Amethi: On Gandhi turf, Amethi, Narendra Modi today launched a full-scale war against Congress president Sonia Gandhi, her son Rahul and daughter Priyanka, who, he said, have been forced to acknowledge him because the "entire country is saying Modi Modi."

But, he said in a longer than usual speech, he came to Amethi, not for "badla (revenge)" but "badlav (change). "I have not come here for revenge. I have come here to bring about a change in this constituency which has been neglected by the Gandhi family despite being represented by it for 40 years. You just invoke family relations with the people here but do nothing for its development," the BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate said, rejecting Congress number 2 Rahul's recent allegation that Mr Modi practises "politics of anger".

Mr Modi was in Rahul Gandhi's constituency to campaign for the BJP candidate, popular actor Smriti Irani. He shared his "gameplan" in choosing Ms Irani - his "younger sister", he informed Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who had said "who?" when asked about Ms Irani yesterday.

"I did not send her to trouble Rahul Bhaiyya, he is troubled enough already. I sent her to address the troubles of the people of Amethi," he told a capacity crowd, that roared with every punchline that the BJP leader delivered. (Highlights of Narendra Modi's speech)

Mr Modi said it was arrogant and discourteous of Ms Vadra to have dismissed Ms Irani, who he said would prove "all political pundits wrong,'' by posting a win in Amethi, considered one of the safest seats for the Congress.

"Voters have already fired the maa-beta (mother-son) government," he said, in a reference to Rahul and Sonia Gandhi.

"These elections are the most significant in Amethi's history. When I was declared the candidate, I was asked, why did you challenge Rahul? I said, the people of Amethi have called out to me," Ms Irani, dressed in saffron, said in an aggressive attack on Mr Gandhi, where Mr Gandhi has been winning since 2004.

She sought the blessings of Mr Modi, against whom she had a decade ago staged a protest, demanding that he apologise for the 2002 riots in his state Gujarat. (Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Attacks Me Just to Grab Headlines: Smriti Irani)

Mr Modi chose to land in Amethi in the closing hours of campaigning for the eighth round of the national election to be held on Wednesday, in which parts of Uttar Pradesh, including Amethi, will vote.
