In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Rattan Lal Kataria of the Bharatiya Janata Party was elected from the Ambala constituency in Haryana. He won with 6,12,121 votes defeating Raj Kumar Balmiki of the Indian National Congress by a margin of 3,40,074 votes.
In the 2009 general elections, Kumari Selja of the Indian National Congress won the Ambala constituency by securing 3,22,258 votes (37.19 per cent of the total votes polled in the constituency) , defeating Rattan Lal Kataria of the BJP who received 307688 votes (35.50 per cent).
There are nine assembly seats under the Ambala constituency: Kalka, Panchkula, Naraingarh, Ambala Cantonment, Ambala City, Mulana, Sadhaura, Jagadhri and Yamuna Nagar.
Voting for the Ambala constituency was conducted in the sixth phase of general elections 2019 on May 12.
For the 2019 general elections, Rattan Lal Kataria of the BJP is contesting against Kumari Selja of the Congress, Ram Pal of the Indian National Lok Dal, and Naresh Kumar Bahujan Samaj Party.
