In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Karia Munda was elected from Khunti in Jharkhand on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket. He received 2,69,185 votes. His closest opponent was Anosh Ekka from Jharkhand Party (JKP) who received 1,76,937 votes. Karia Munda won the constituency by a margin of 92,248 votes.
In 2009 general elections Khunti seat was won by Karia Munda of BJP. In 2004 general elections Sushila Kerketta of Congress won the Khunti parliamentary constituency and her runner up was Karia Munda of BJP.
Khunti parliamentary constituency is reserved constituency for Scheduled Tribes (ST) and consists of six Vidhan Sabha seats these are Kharsawan, Tamar, Torpa, Khunti, Kolebira and Simdega
Voting for Khunti seat was concluded in the fifth phase of elections on May 6.
In the 2019 general elections BJP has fielded Arjun Munda, Congress candidate is Kali Charan Munda and BSP has fielded Indumati Mundu.
